A ndrei Komarov is a Russian industrialist who made his fortune in the steel pipe manufacturing industry. He is a major shareholder of ChelPipe Group (also known as ChTPZ), one of Russia's leading producers of steel pipes for the oil, gas, and construction industries. He began his career during the perestroika era, working in various commercial roles before moving into the metals business.
In the 1990s, Komarov began consolidating stakes in pipe manufacturing plants in the Urals region, eventually forming the ChelPipe Group. He invested heavily in modernizing the Soviet-era facilities, turning them into highly efficient and technologically advanced plants. A significant portion of his wealth was realized in 2021 when he sold a controlling stake in the company to a competitor, TMK, for over $1 billion. He has also faced legal challenges in Russia, having been previously investigated for fraud, though the charges were later dropped.
