A zim Premji is an Indian business tycoon, investor, and philanthropist who is the founder and chairman of Wipro Limited. He is often referred to as the "Czar of the Indian IT Industry." His story began in 1966 when, at the age of 21, he dropped out of Stanford University to take over his family's small cooking oil business after the sudden death of his father. He diversified the company's product lines and set the stage for a major transformation.
In the late 1970s, recognizing a massive opportunity as IBM was asked to leave India, Premji pivoted the company into the nascent IT industry. He renamed the company Wipro and built it into one of India's largest and most respected IT services giants, a leader in the software outsourcing boom that transformed the Indian economy. Beyond his legendary business career, Premji is one of the world's most generous philanthropists. He has irrevocably endowed a significant portion of his Wipro stake to his charitable foundation, which is dedicated to improving primary education in India.
