C hristian Haub is a German-American billionaire and the head of the Tengelmann Group, a massive German family-owned retail and investment conglomerate. The company was built into a retail giant by his late father, Erivan Haub. Tengelmann's holdings have included major supermarket chains and the OBI home improvement store chain. The family also owns a significant stake in the discount retailer, Aldi Nord.
Christian Haub took sole control of the family empire under tragic and mysterious circumstances. His older brother, Karl-Erivan Haub, who had been running the company, disappeared during a ski mountaineering trip in the Swiss Alps in 2018 and was later declared legally dead. After his brother's disappearance, Christian, who had been running the family's U.S. operations, took over the leadership of the entire group and later bought out his brother's family's stake, consolidating his control. He is now the steward of one of Germany's most significant and secretive family fortunes.
