G arrett Camp is a Canadian serial entrepreneur who has co-founded two of the most disruptive and iconic technology companies of the modern era: StumbleUpon and Uber. A computer engineer by training, he co-founded the web-discovery platform StumbleUpon in 2002, which was later acquired by eBay. It was his frustration with the cost and inefficiency of taxis in San Francisco that led him to his next, far more revolutionary idea.
In 2009, he and his partner, Travis Kalanick, co-founded Uber, the ride-hailing service that would fundamentally transform urban transportation around the world. Camp is credited with conceiving the original idea for the service. While Kalanick became the company's aggressive and controversial CEO, Camp served as the chairman and a key board member, guiding the company's long-term vision. His massive founding stake in Uber is the primary source of his multi-billion dollar fortune. He now runs his own startup studio, Expa, which helps to build and launch new companies.
