I ris Fontbona is a Chilean billionaire and the matriarch of the Luksic family, the wealthiest family in Chile and one of the richest in Latin America. She is the widow of Andrónico Luksic Abaroa, who built a massive and diversified business empire. Upon his death in 2005, she and her three sons inherited his vast fortune and control of the family's business, the Luksic Group.
The Luksic Group is a powerful conglomerate with major and often controlling stakes in a number of key sectors of the Chilean and Latin American economy. Its main holdings are in mining (through Antofagasta PLC, one of the world's largest copper producers, which is listed in London), banking (Banco de Chile), and beverages (CCU, a major beer and soft drink producer). While her son, Jean-Paul Luksic, chairs the mining division, Iris and the rest of her family oversee their vast and powerful business empire, making them the most influential business dynasty in their country.
