J erzy Starak is a Polish billionaire who is a dominant figure in the country's pharmaceutical and consumer goods industries. He is the founder and chairman of the supervisory board of Polpharma, the largest pharmaceutical company in Poland. He built his business empire in the post-communist era, starting with a trading company before making a major and highly successful move into pharmaceuticals.
He acquired the state-owned Polpharma during its privatization and has since built it into a major domestic and international player in the generic drug market. In addition to his core pharmaceutical business, he also has a major stake in the food production company, Herbapol.
