M argot Birmingham Perot is an American philanthropist and the matriarch of the Perot family. She is the widow of the iconic, self-made Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot Sr., a pioneering figure in the information technology industry and a two-time U.S. presidential candidate. Ross Perot founded two immensely successful IT services companies: Electronic Data Systems (EDS), which he sold to General Motors in 1984 for $2.5 billion, and Perot Systems, which was acquired by Dell in 2009 for $3.9 billion. These ventures created a vast family fortune.
Following her husband's death in 2019, Margot and her five children inherited the family's immense wealth. While she was a steadfast partner to her husband throughout his storied career, she has primarily focused her efforts on philanthropy. She has been a major benefactor to numerous institutions in her home city of Dallas, with the Perot family name adorning hospitals, museums (including the Perot Museum of Nature and Science), and cultural centers. She serves as the chairwoman emeritus of The Perot Foundation, guiding the family's charitable giving, while her son, Ross Perot Jr., manages the family's business interests.
