S ergio Fogel is a pioneering Uruguayan serial entrepreneur who has played a pivotal role in establishing the country's technology and fintech scene. A graduate of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, he holds dual Israeli and Uruguayan citizenship. Fogel's entrepreneurial career is marked by the creation of several successful companies, but he is best known as the co-founder of dLocal, Uruguay's first and most prominent technology unicorn. He identified a critical challenge for global e-commerce giants: the difficulty of processing payments in emerging markets with fragmented local payment methods.

In 2016, alongside his partner Andrés Bzurovski, Fogel launched dLocal to solve this problem. The company provides a single API that allows multinational merchants to accept payments in various local currencies and methods, and to make payouts across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The platform's success was meteoric, attracting major clients and significant venture capital investment. In 2021, dLocal went public on the NASDAQ in a landmark IPO, making Fogel one of his country's first technology billionaires. Prior to dLocal, he also co-founded other successful fintech companies, including the online payment provider AstroPay.
