U rs Wietlisbach is a Swiss billionaire and one of the three co-founders of Partners Group, a major global private equity and alternative investment management firm. After a career in banking, including at Goldman Sachs, he left in 1996 to found Partners Group in Zug, Switzerland, along with his two partners, Alfred Gantner and Marcel Erni. They started the firm with the goal of making private equity investments more accessible to a broader range of institutional investors.
As a co-founder, Wietlisbach was a key architect of the firm's strategy and was particularly responsible for building its client relationships and product development. Partners Group grew at a tremendous pace, becoming one of Europe's largest alternative asset managers with hundreds of billions of dollars under management, with investments across private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and private debt. The firm's highly successful IPO on the Swiss stock exchange in 2006 was the key event that turned the three co-founders' stakes into billion-dollar fortunes. He now serves as a member of the board of directors.
