V ladislav Filev is a Russian billionaire who is the co-founder and chairman of the board of directors of the S7 Group, one of Russia's largest private aviation companies. A former military pilot, he and his wife, Natalia Fileva (who tragically died in a plane crash in 2019), acquired the small, state-owned Siberian airline, Sibir Airlines, in the 1990s. They have since built it into a major player in the Russian aviation market.
The airline was rebranded as S7 Airlines and has become Russia's largest private airline, with a modern fleet of aircraft and a major domestic and international route network. The S7 Group has also diversified its interests into other areas of the aviation industry. Following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the Russian aviation industry has been severely impacted by international sanctions, which has posed significant challenges to the company's operations. The family's wealth is derived from their ownership of the privately held aviation empire.
