W u Yingming, also known as Eddie Wu, is a highly influential Chinese technology executive and one of the co-founders of the e-commerce behemoth, Alibaba Group. He was one of the original 18 co-founders who, along with the company's iconic leader Jack Ma, started the company from a small apartment in Hangzhou in 1999. As a key technical leader, Wu served as Alibaba's first chief technology officer and was instrumental in building the architecture for the company's foundational platforms, including the Taobao marketplace and the Alipay payment service.
Over the years, he has held a series of senior leadership roles across the sprawling Alibaba ecosystem, including as the head of its mobile business and as the chairman of Alibaba Health. In a major leadership reshuffle in 2023, he was appointed as the chief executive officer of the entire Alibaba Group, taking over the day-to-day leadership of the company as it navigates a challenging period of increased competition and regulatory scrutiny. His founding stake in the company and his long and impactful career are the sources of his billion-dollar fortune.
