A na Lucia de Mattos Barretto Villela is a Brazilian heiress and a member of one of the country's most prominent banking families. She is the great-granddaughter of the founder of Duratex, a major wood panel and bathroom fixture company, and also holds a significant stake in Itaú Unibanco, the largest private bank in Latin America. Her family is a key shareholder in Itaúsa, the publicly traded holding company that controls both of these massive enterprises.
Tragedy marked her early life when she lost her parents in a plane crash as a child. Raised by her aunt, she grew up to become one of the youngest billionaires in the world. While she serves on the board of Itaúsa, she has dedicated most of her life to philanthropy and social causes. In 1994, she co-founded the Alana Institute, a non-profit organization focused on promoting children's rights, education, and social-environmental programs. She serves as the president of the institute, channeling her considerable resources into improving the lives of children in Brazil and beyond.
