C hen Dongsheng is a prominent Chinese entrepreneur who is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Taikang Insurance Group, one of China's largest insurance and financial services companies. He is also the founder of China Guardian Auctions, the country's first major art auction house. An economist by training, he was part of the first wave of entrepreneurs in the early 1990s who left government jobs to create private businesses.
He founded Taikang in 1996 and has built it into a massive enterprise with interests in life insurance, asset management, and healthcare. He has been a pioneer in combining insurance with senior living communities, creating a new model for elder care in China. In addition to his insurance empire, his founding of China Guardian established a legitimate and transparent market for Chinese art and antiques. He is also the grandson-in-law of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong, a connection that has added to his prominence.
