D onald Mackenzie is a Scottish chartered accountant and a co-founder of CVC Capital Partners, one of the largest and most successful private equity firms in the world. He helped lead the management buyout of CVC from its former parent, Citicorp, in 1993, and has been a central figure in building the firm into a global buyout giant.
As one of the firm's co-chairmen, Mackenzie has been involved in some of Europe's largest and most high-profile leveraged buyouts. CVC has a vast and diversified portfolio of companies across a range of industries and has also built a major presence in sports, having owned Formula One racing for a decade and now holding stakes in rugby and other sports leagues. Mackenzie is known for being extremely private and is one of the most powerful and influential, yet low-profile, figures in European finance.
