S tanley S. Hubbard is an American media pioneer and the chairman and CEO of Hubbard Broadcasting. He is a third-generation broadcaster, following in the footsteps of his father, Stanley E. Hubbard, who was an early radio and television trailblazer. The company, which is based in Minnesota, owns a portfolio of television and radio stations across the United States. Hubbard is most famous for being a visionary in the satellite television industry.
In the 1980s and 90s, he was a key early investor and founder of the United States Satellite Broadcasting (USSB), one of the two companies that created the first commercially successful direct-to-home satellite TV service in the U.S., which later became DirecTV. The sale of USSB to DirecTV in 1999 for over $1.3 billion was the primary source of the Hubbard family's billion-dollar fortune. Now in his 90s, he continues to lead the family's privately held broadcasting empire.
