S uhail Bahwan is a self-made Omani billionaire and the founder and chairman of the Suhail Bahwan Group, one of Oman's largest and most diversified privately owned conglomerates. He started his business career in the 1960s with his brother, Saud, operating a small shop in the Muttrah souk. They built their business by securing the dealership rights for major brands like Toyota and Seiko in Oman. This partnership, known as the Suhail & Saud Bahwan Group, grew into a massive and highly successful enterprise.
In 2002, the brothers split their business interests, with Suhail taking control of many of the group's assets and renaming his part of the empire the Suhail Bahwan Group. He has since continued to expand and diversify the business, which now has interests in fertilizers, chemicals, engineering, construction, and real estate, in addition to its foundational automotive business. Now in his 80s, he has handed over much of the day-to-day management to the next generation, including his daughter, Amal Bahwan, who is a prominent business leader in her own right.
