T orsten Toeller is a self-made German billionaire who is the founder and owner of Fressnapf, Europe's largest retail chain for pet supplies. He was inspired to start the business after a trip to the United States, where he saw the success of large-scale pet superstores. In 1990, at the age of 24, he opened his first Fressnapf store in Germany with a small amount of borrowed capital. The company, which operates outside of Germany under the brand name Maxi Zoo, offers a wide range of pet food, toys, and accessories.

The big-box pet store concept was a massive success, and he has built Fressnapf into a huge retail empire with thousands of stores across more than a dozen European countries. The company remains privately held, with Toeller as the sole owner. In addition to his core retail business, he has invested in other pet-related businesses and is also known for his appearance as an investor on the German version of the TV show "Shark Tank" ("Die Höhle der Löwen").
