V inod Khosla is an Indian-American billionaire who is one of the most successful and influential venture capitalists in Silicon Valley. He first made his name as one of the four co-founders of Sun Microsystems in 1982, a company that became a major player in the computer workstation industry. He left Sun early in its history to become a venture capitalist, joining the legendary firm Kleiner Perkins, where he was a general partner for many years and led a number of successful investments.
In 2004, he founded his own firm, Khosla Ventures, which has become a major force in early-stage technology investing. While the firm invests in a wide range of areas, Khosla is particularly known for his passion for and deep commitment to investing in 'science experiments', or companies in deep-tech and clean technology sectors that he believes can have a major, positive impact on the world. He is known for his strong opinions, his willingness to take big risks on unproven technologies, and for being a vocal advocate for innovation. He has also been involved in a long-running and controversial legal battle to block public access to a beach on his California coastal property.
