W ee Ee Chao is a Singaporean billionaire and a member of the powerful Wee family, which controls the United Overseas Bank (UOB), one of Singapore's three major banking groups. He is the younger son of the late banking tycoon Wee Cho Yaw, who was the longtime chairman of UOB and the architect of its growth into a major regional financial powerhouse. Wee Ee Chao and his two siblings, Wee Ee Cheong and Wee Wei Ling, inherited the family's vast fortune and their controlling stake in the bank.
While his older brother, Wee Ee Cheong, has taken on the primary leadership role as the CEO of UOB, Wee Ee Chao has also been active in the family's diverse business interests. He serves as the chairman and managing director of UOL Group, a major publicly traded property development and hospitality company that is controlled by the Wee family. He has been responsible for guiding the strategy of the family's extensive real estate empire, which includes a portfolio of residential, commercial, and hotel properties across Asia.
