B yron Trott is an American investor and the founder, chairman, and CEO of BDT & MSD Partners, a merchant bank that provides advisory and investment services to a select group of ultra-wealthy families and their closely held businesses. Trott is famously known as Warren Buffett's favorite investment banker, with Buffett having praised him publicly in his annual letters to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.

Trott built his formidable reputation during his long career at Goldman Sachs, where he became the vice chairman of investment banking and one of the firm's most trusted advisors to family-controlled businesses. In 2009, he left Goldman to found BDT Capital Partners, applying his expertise in a more focused way.
