G eorge Prokopiou is a self-made Greek shipping tycoon and a towering figure in the global maritime industry. An engineer by training, he bought his first ship in the 1970s and has since built a massive and highly diversified shipping empire. He is the founder of several major shipping companies, each focused on a different sector of the market: Dynacom Tankers (oil tankers), Sea Traders (dry bulk carriers), and Dynagas (liquefied natural gas carriers).

Prokopiou is renowned for his deep technical expertise and his hands-on approach to ship management and design. He has been a pioneer in the LNG carrier market, particularly in vessels designed for navigating icy Arctic routes.
