U do Tschira is a German heir whose fortune is derived from his inherited stake in the software giant SAP. He is one of the two sons of the late Klaus Tschira, one of the five co-founders of SAP. His father, a physicist, was part of the group of former IBM engineers who founded the company in 1972. They pioneered the market for enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and built SAP into one of the largest and most successful software companies in the world.
Upon his father's death, his vast fortune, including his large stake in the publicly traded SAP, was passed down to his two sons, Udo and Harald. Udo is not involved in the operational management of SAP. He is, however, deeply involved in the family's extensive philanthropic activities through the Klaus Tschira Foundation, one of Germany's largest private foundations, which is dedicated to supporting science, mathematics, and computer science education and research.
